BOMB CAPE CANAVERAL

At Saturday 15 February the usual mix of unpleasantly smelling squatters, worried members of the green party & every last communist took to the streets of Amsterdam to protest against a possible war in Iraq. The Jungle Association of Autonomous Astronauts infiltrated in this well attended demonstration with a demo of our own. What we suspected to happen, did; naïve protesters where so busy denouncing George W. Bush, that fake Darth Vader with whom even Jabba the Hut wouldn't want to do business, that they were simultaneous producing the best propaganda Saddam Hussein could wish for & yes he did use it.

The Jungle Association of Autonomous Astronauts knows where we are standing when it comes down to global politics: we are above it, denouncing every side, especially if they have access to outer space: Down with mass murdering maniac Hussein, down with George W. Bush, down with Putin (who is advised to first withdraw his army from the Chechen republic before he says anything about a war in Iraq), no to any war & not to use of outer space that is a product of the powers that be.

While Hussein was doing some more research into biological & nuclear warfare, Bush was looking into the subject of building a missile shield, the Jungle AAA were not wasting their time either. After we had proved that independent space travel was possible, we knew that nothing could stop us.

Right after the Columbia crash astronaut Wubbo Ockels appeared on the Dutch television to say that this accident shouldn't be used as a reason to cut back on budgets because "humanity needs space travel to solve the problems of the world". What a bore, what a limited view of what space travel could be & what a deceitful presentation of the way space travel is currently being used. Satellite technology has been proven useful in detecting all sorts of environmental pollution, granted that, it is also true that space is increasingly used to spy on friend & foe alike; eavesdropping in on telephone conversations, visual monitoring of movement & industry, the echelon project,  all are using space technology.      

SPACE TRAVEL FOR ALL!!

The problem with Ockels is that he lacks the philosophy to overcome the tunnel vision that's typical to the engineer: the believe that there are only technical problems & technical ways to solve it.
As long as mankind can't properly deal with it's own garbage, it's own stupidity, accidents like the Columbia crash will happen again & will confine the scope of space travel within the imagination of governments & multinationals. Before we go into space we need to develop a new concept of society.
The problem with the world of today is that nobody remembers Giordano Bruno.
